Governance
Governor opportunities
City Academy Norwich is an aspirational academy, passionate about providing a holistic education to all students. We are looking to grow our board of governors and would welcome applications to join the governing body at this exciting time of school improvement.
Becoming a governor is a fantastic way to contribute to the Academy’s students, staff and parents, as well as the wider community. Governors have a significant role in the long term development and improvement of the school and provide strong links with the wider community. They also provide support for the headteacher, teaching and support staff.
Our governors have a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience, but all share the common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our school. They are expected to attend regular meetings and contribute to behind-the-scenes decision making and planning at CAN.
School Governor Journey from a career development perspective
If you are interested in becoming a governor at City Academy Norwich, please contact louise.vyse@cityacademynorwich.org for further information, or to arrange a meeting with the headteacher.
The role of governor
In England there are over 300,000 school/academy governors. They form the largest volunteer force in the country.
Governors work together to perform a strategic role and carry out key functions such as:
- Discussing and setting the aims and objectives for the academy
- Setting the required policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- Setting the required targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- Monitoring and evaluating the progress the Academy is making towards its set aims and objectives
Finally, the role of the academy governor is to challenge and support the headteacher, i.e. to be a ‘critical friend’.
