Attendance

Attendance

At City Academy Norwich, we work with parents to ensure that all our pupils receive the most from their education. Attendance matters because we want every student to achieve their full potential. Research by the Department for Education shows a clear link between attendance and achievement.

Every day counts

Students with good attendance are more likely to achieve better examination results and go on to have more successful careers.

Students should aim for 100% attendance. We reward excellent or significantly improved attendance.

We will contact you if your child’s attendance falls below expectations and work together to help improve their attendance.

Non-Attendance

If there is a problem, for example your child is struggling with a certain lesson, has trouble with peers, or has any other issue that is making them reluctant to attend school, please tell us so we can support them.

We are legally required to challenge persistent absence, and may be required to take legal action.

Arriving late

When pupils arrive late, they miss out on essential instructions given at the beginning of the lesson. Arriving 15 minutes later per day would mean missing 2 weeks of school over a year. This can significantly reduce achievement, regardless of academic ability.  Your child may also feel awkward arriving at the classroom when everyone else is settled. Furthermore, when one pupil arrives late, it disrupts the entire class and the teacher; everyone’s education is compromised.

Morning registration takes place at 8.42am. All students are expected to be in form at 8.40am for the start of registration.

Late arrivals will result in a break time detention, the length of which will depend on how late the student was.
