CAN Celebrates Record GCSE Results

Students and staff at City Academy Norwich are celebrating the best results in the academy’s history, with strong improvement achieved in the key measure.

Overall, 43% of students at the school achieved a Grade 4 or better in English and in maths, with a 4 being the government’s benchmark pass. This marks a significant nine percentage-point improvement on last year’s results and comes at the end of the first year of the Bohunt Education Trust’s support. The trust will be extending this support over the next academic year to build on today’s results.

Results in English were particularly strong, with 59% of students achieving at least a Grade 4 in English (11 percentage points up on last year) and 36% of students securing a Grade 5 or higher, defined by the Government as a “good pass”.

The academy is also celebrating improved performance in maths, with 54% of students achieving a Grade 4 or higher (six percentage points up on last year), and 33% of students gaining a Grade 5 or above.

“It is wonderful to see the outcomes finally moving to a place that shows our students’ true potential. We have a phenomenal group of staff who have worked really hard. The additional support of Bohunt this academic year has enabled the academy to work with new approaches that bring out the best in our students. I am incredibly proud of the success of everyone and congratulate all involved including all our students and parents.”   Principal, Mary Sparrow

“We are thrilled with the achievements of our students this year. Bohunt Education Trust has supported CAN since September, working alongside the staff and senior leadership team to rapidly improve the progress of our students. This year’s results clearly show how well our students can achieve when given the right climate in which to flourish. I would like to congratulate all our students on their results and thank all our staff for their commitment and passion over this year.”  Executive Academy Lead, Paul Collin

“We are delighted with the results that have been achieved today, which are the best in the school’s history. This really is testament to the dedication, effort and hard work of students, staff and the whole school community. We look forward to building on this success as Bohunt Education Trust continues to work with City Academy Norwich.”  Chief Executive, Bohunt Education Trust, Neil Strowger
