The Academy is committed to having quality processes in place that will enhance both the reputation and functioning of the Academy and that will provide all candidates with a wellmanaged professional opportunity. The following are the key criteria to which we operate:
- equal opportunities issues
- working within the legal framework
- quality of communication with applicants
- variety of selection techniques
- the status of recruitment and selection as a whole-Academy management concern
Staff appointment procedures will be monitored by the Vice Principal and revised regularly to ensure that maximum efficiency and effectiveness are achieved in the recruitment and appointment of all Academy staff.
All new posts are advertised, internally and externally as appropriate. Staff presently employed at the Academy are free to apply for these posts. When a new position of responsibility is created, this responsibility may be advertised internally only, as an appropriate additional responsibility for an existing member of staff.
All applicants are considered with due care, in the short-listing process, with due attention to the Academy’s Equal Opportunities policy. References are followed up in the short-listing procedure.
The interview programme is scheduled to give the candidates and the Academy the opportunity to investigate each other as thoroughly as is possible in an interview situation. As far as is possible, all the interviews will take place on an Academy working day so that a realistic impression is given. Interviews for teaching posts will be conducted by members of the Senior Management Team, the Leadership Team and Heads of Faculty. Whenever possible, members from the student body will be on the interview panel (Members of the Governing Body will be involved in interviews for members of the Senior Management Team). In most instances applicants for teaching positions will be observed in a lesson they have preplanned. Interviews for support staff will be conducted by the relevant Line Managers. Those candidates not offered the post will be debriefed as soon as acceptance is confirmed by the chosen applicant. Those applicants who were not invited to interview are, at this point, informed that the post is filled. Evaluations of the interview process are completed by all candidates.
The Academy is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children. As such close attention is paid to safe recruitment procedures.
