Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh award can be picked as an option at yr9 OR taken as an extra curricular course.  However you decide to tackle it, the course is fun, challenging and most importantly shaped around the things that YOU like doing.

There are 3 different awards that you can pick up, Bronze, Silver and Gold.  Each one sets new challenges, gets you involved in the community and helps you learn new skills.  Once you get your Gold, you will even get to go to Buckingham Palace to meet the Duke of Edinburgh himself (Thats the Queens husband for those of you that don’t know).

There are 4 main sections that you will have to complete, these have to be done out of school time….

Volunteering - Volunteer in your local community, help people and be rewarded

Skills - Learn a new skill, it can be anything but most importantly it will be something that YOU are interested in as you get to pick

Physical - Get involved in a sport or hobby that encourages you to get fit, again, this is your choice so could be anything from acrobatics to Zorbing

Expedition - We will train you up to be able to do an expedition into the wilds of Norfolk (Bronze) or further afield, maybe even abroad! (Gold)

Throughout the year you will notice DofE events happening in and around school.  One of the main events we run is the ‘Big Freeze’ where we camp on the school field to raise money through sponsorship for trips and also for ‘Shelter’, a charity which helps the homeless.
