Match Report: Year 7 Boys CAN vs Reepham High School

February 27, 2012 | In: Important Notices Archive

On Wednesday, the Year 7 boys football team travelled to Reepham High School for their next fixture in the Norwich Schools Football league. The fixture was the team’s first, since the winter break and saw lots of players representing the school for the first time.

With key players missing from the CAN side and the opposition being top of the league it was going to be a tough match.

Upon arrival at Reepham it was clear that the wind was going to play a big part in the game as it was blowing very strongly from one end of the pitch to the other. Playing into the wind, CAN got off to a bad start conceding a goal in the first few minutes when the defence struggled to clear the ball and the Reepham striker slotting home from close range. It didn’t get much better during the first half with CAN struggling to come to terms with the wind and they went in at half time 6.0 behind.

After a drink, a rest and a few tactical changes the team went out for the second half in a more positive mood. CAN started to make some chances and Tylor Pole hit the post after breaking through the Reepham defence but unfortunately the ball rebounded into the goalkeepers arms rather than into the net! William Kopita made the tackle of the game with three Reepham players through on goal.   William sprinted out of nowhere to steal the ball from them and dribbled the ball out of defence and away from danger. CAN continued to apply more pressure in the second half and five minutes before the end, Jack Coleman scored a goal, which the team fully deserved. The game ended 8.1 to Reepham High School.

Team manager Mr Osborne said;

“We came up against a very good team tonight. The Reepham players played well as a team and seemed to have lots of experience of playing competitive football matches together. Hopefully our boys have learnt a valuable lesson from them about how to work as a team on a big pitch and we look forward to putting these new skills into use in our upcoming fixtures.”

The team’s next fixture is at home against Hellesdon High School on Wednesday 29th February.
