Year 7 boys football team beat local rivals

The Year 7 boys football team played a friendly match recently against local rivals the Hewett School.

The aim of the game was to give the squad a chance to play together ahead of their busy period of league fixtures after the February half term break. The 7 a side match was played on the all weather pitches at the Sportspark under floodlights.

CAN selected a big squad of players for the game to reward the commitment shown at recent training sessions by many pupils. The game was split into 4 x 15 minute quarters, rather than the normal two halves, to allow both teams to make lots of substitutions and to try out players in a variety of different positions. With the game being played on a smaller pitch than normal, it was hoped that all players would get lots of touches of the ball and there would be lots of shots on goal.

CAN started well but found themselves 2.1 down at the end of the first quarter. After fighting back in the second period CAN had edged ahead by half time. With all players giving their all and working well as a team the second half saw CAN take control and dominate the game. The game ended 14.6 to CAN.

Team Manager Mr Osborne said;
“I am really proud of how the team played as they haven’t had the chance to play together very many times in the past. We have a good squad of players and as long as they continue to work hard during our training sessions I am sure we can do well in our upcoming league fixtures”.
